Allison's ideas

1. who are our users? I think they would be high school students. (Grades 9-12)
2. how will our users access the site? from their home computers?? We need to take into consideration all types of computers and ISPs, and how they are connecting to the internet speed wise.
3. how does video fit into the curriculum? I believe it should be incorporated somehow, what way that is, I am not sure yet. Maybe within the course. As in lectures, field trips, etc.
4. how can we utilize and modify the Centra interface? I like the ideas we came up with in our first meeting. Math tools, dual platform, moving words around, etc.
5. how can we make the learning community social, interactive and collaborative? Setting up activities for the entire school. The interface needs to be user friendly. All the different tools we incorporate into our platform need to be centrally located in one place. I like the way Ron has set that up on his site so far! Great Job Ron! We need a discussion area. Blogs are ok, but threaded disscussions and newsgroups allow for more organization. I think they are easier to use, but that is my personal opinion. I think Centra will make it collaborative for users as well as the newsgroups. Profiles are great for kids too. That way they can learn about each other and find other kids who have similar interests to share with.
Other thoughts to get us started? Do we need an area for course content. What about assessments? A place to post announcements messages? A calendar? What about a place for students to create the layout of the page. (Colors, where things are placed on their screen?), A system check tool to make sure their settings work with our program, white boards?, each kid gets an email account once they are in the system. I liked the idea of a buddy list type thing, where you can see who else is on and can go collaborate in Centra if they want, glossary and search tools?, Gradebook? Sorry, I am going way too fast, just wanted to make sure everything gets in here. I am sure I can think of more, just give me time! :)
